SAP 2005?

Software which must be used to determine whether or not new buildings (dwellings) are energy compliant with Government targets

RDSAP

Reduced Data Standard Assessment Procedure - When selling a house an energy performance certificate is produced as part of the Home Information Pack (HIP) a simple form of data collection is used by a Domestic Energy Assessor.

Energy Performance Certificates

  • Energy Performance Certificate:

    • Target Emission Rate - Set by Government
    • Dwelling Emission Rate - Must be less than the target
    • SAP 2005 - Software utilised to make these calculations and show:
  • Energy Cost per year
  • CO2 Emissions per year

CO2 Emissions per annum

The amount of CO2 the SAP calculation determines your home will emit each year.  This can be reduced by accredited construction (Robust details) and the use of alternative energy forms:

  • Solar panels
  • Photo voltaic Cells
  • Ground source heat pumps
  • Wind
  • Thermal Mass
  • Site Orientation
  • Grey water
  • Utilising embodied energy = recycle, minimise transportation costs
  • Renewables - the timber used in timber frame construction can be immediately replanted
  • bio-mass (but not at the expense of food crops)

Energy Cost per annum

How much energy your home will use per annum.   This can be reduced by:

  • Changing fuel (oil, electricity, gas etc)
  • A more energy efficient boiler
  • Insulation
  • Low energy lightbulbs
  • Switch controls

Extensions and Conservatories - Energy compliance?

If you wish to extend your home with an extension, loft conversion, basement or a conservatory you will need to meet the requirements of Part L of the Building Regulations - you must ensure it complies with the Government requirements of energy efficiency.

The best way to ensure compliance is to utilise SAP 2005 software.  This give the greatest flexibility of design.
